I created a minimal Ethereum smart contract and deployed it on the Ropsten testnet. I proceeded to send 0.002 Ether to the contract address and the transaction gave me the following on Etherscan: TxReceipt Status: Fail

The expected outcome is for my EtherDelta contract address to receive 2.0 HUM tokens.

Here is the Etherscan link: https://ropsten.etherscan.io/address/0xd8a25992c8c0e012b0407ecfeed51fce51341923

Here is the contract code:

    // Public variables of the token
    string public name;
    string public symbol;
    uint8 public decimals = 18;
    // 18 decimals is the strongly suggested default, avoid changing it
    uint256 public totalSupply;

    // This creates an array with all balances
    mapping (address => uint256) public balanceOf;
    mapping (address => mapping (address => uint256)) public allowance;

    // This generates a public event on the blockchain that will notify clients
    event Transfer(address indexed from, address indexed to, uint256 value);

    // This notifies clients about the amount burnt
    event Burn(address indexed from, uint256 value);

The problem is with

_tranfer(this, msg.sender, amount);

For this to work you need this to have at least amount tokens in this balance. But nowhere in your contract there is assignment for that. The closes is in the constructor.

balanceOf[msg.sender] = totalSupply;
0
0

You might want to explicitly cast the this parameter to an address instead of allowing it to implicitly cast in the line

_tranfer(this, msg.sender, amount)

I'm not saying that's the problem, but the code looks okay otherwise. Maybe this will help you Find contract address inside the contract?. In that example, the this is explicitly cast with address(this). Not sure if this is right, so please comment here if it's correct.

  • Thank you for your suggestion. It didn't solve the problem, although I added the explicit cast since it makes the code more readable. Commented Dec 11, 2017 at 7:15
