Some questions regarding the upcoming fork and hard forks in general:

  • Will clients running the new version of geth be able to peer with clients running the old version?
  • If they can peer with each other, would a block created by a new version miner then propagated to an old version client, just get dropped by that client?
  • If they can peer with each other, transactions broadcasted from both old and new clients would end up in the mempools of old and new miners thus ending up in both chains?
  • Is there mining specific code somewhere saying in essence if versionX: do X and append to chainX elif versionY: do Y and append to chainY?

Any pointers to which in the geth codebase to any of the above would be appreciated as well.
