This code works - taken from Wiki -

    function transferAnyERC20Token(address tokenAddress, uint tokens) public  returns (bool success) {

This code does not - fails on the deploy -

    function myBalance() public  returns (uint myNumber);

}

contract d15 is d8  {
    function getBalance(address addr)  public returns (uint myNumber) {
    return d8(addr).myBalance();
    }
}

Can anyone see why the first one works and the second does not?

You aren't trying to inherit the interface, you're just trying to use the interface. Just remove is d8 from the contract declaration.

  • The given example for ERC20Interface should fail as well. If you inherit an interface with unimplemented functions and don't implement them, then deployment will fail. – flygoing Mar 13 '18 at 14:58

    I found out what is happening. This is the way truffle works. I deployed the ERC20 once and then slowly eliminated lines. It kept deploying because the original once had worked. When I changed the filename on the sol file for the ERC20 it stopped deploying saying - Error: Could not find artifacts for ./x2 from any sources. I am unsure what that means but that is why I could deploy and you could not. – Trevor Lee Oakley Mar 13 '18 at 15:35

As of Solidity version 0.5.10,

Contracts can inherit interfaces as they would inherit other contracts.
